Remembering history and cherishing peace
——Qiaofeng Company's visit to the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the founding of the CPC
This year's "July 1" is the 99th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. In order to celebrate the 99th birthday of the party, and encourage the majority of the party members of Qiaofeng Company to give full play to the role of battle fortress and vanguard model, and further enhance the awareness of identity and responsibility of the party members, on July 5, 2020, the party branch of Qiaofeng Company organized all party members and activists to join the party to visit the Memorial Hall of Compatriots Victims of the Nanjing Massacre of Japanese Invaders in Nanjing.
The weather on that day, slightly gloomy, seemed to add a hint of solemnity to today's party building activities. The party members and activists of the company also gathered at the company gate early in the morning and departed on time at 8am. It was about an hour and a half by car, and the journey was smooth. After entering Nanjing City, it started to drizzle and the speed gradually slowed down. However, it quickly arrived at the destination, the Holocaust Memorial Hall located in Jiangdongmen.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone made an appointment in advance on the official website before coming. At the entrance, security personnel supervise every visitor to wear a mask and show their health code before they can swipe their ID card to enter.
As soon as we entered the entrance of the memorial hall, everyone's expressions became solemn. Standing in front of us were a series of shocking sculptures, including civilians who desperately fled to avoid Japanese aircraft bombing, young girls who were humiliated by the Japanese army and decided to commit suicide by throwing themselves into the river, elderly people who were in complete condition and in great pain, and mothers who hugged their children who had died in the massacre and screamed in the sky.
As the slow flow of people advanced, the first thing that caught our eyes was the 12.13-meter-high cross shaped monument with the words "1937.12.13-1938.1", symbolizing the fall of Nanjing on December 13th. The pit below the monument is paved with many small stones, each symbolizing a deceased compatriot and symbolizing that this building was built on the site of the Jiangdongmen Manhole.
Entering the exhibition hall of historical materials, the theme exhibition of life and death, sadness and anger is shocking. Accompanied by a large number of pictures, text, physical objects, etc., visitors were brought into that dark period of time. Everyone looked serious and watched carefully. The densely packed list of victims on the wall is too large to be fully explored. Facing history and touching it, let everyone more deeply realize that "300000 victims" are not just numbers, they are once vivid lives, they are our suffering compatriots!
Come to the Wanrenkeng Site in the Memorial Hall, which displays some of the remains of the victims excavated from the "Wanrenkeng" in Jiangdongmen, where the memorial hall was built in 1985. In the dimly lit ruins of the mass grave, looking at a pile of white bones stacked on top of the ruins, you can even see the marks left by bayonets, the holes pierced by bullets, and clearly the remains of babies! You can imagine the tragic scene back then.
This visit event allows everyone to understand and remember this period of history, and to face this painful national disaster in the most intuitive way. Finally, all visitors take a group photo in front of the sculpture of the "Goddess of Peace".
Never forget the past, the teacher of the future. Mr. Rabe said, "Forgive, but don't forget!" Every Chinese should have a sense of worry and a spirit of self-improvement. As a Communist Party member, we have a greater responsibility to consciously strengthen patriotism and moral cultivation, always maintain a positive and enterprising attitude towards life, work hard, and contribute our own strength to the greater prosperity and strength of our great motherland!
